DHARMANAGAR, June 7 (TIWN): A woman was electrocuted on the banks of the Kakari river while collecting snails.
It is known from the locals that the death of this woman is due to the extreme negligence of the electricity department.
The incident took place on Friday on the banks of Kakri river in the Jamiraala area of ??Ward No. 19 of Dharmanagar Municipality.
It is known that some people from the Manughat area used to come from Asaram Bari and Nalkata to collect snails from Kakri river in Dharmanagar College Road area every day.
They used to sell their collected snails at 40 taka per kg. Every morning they would come to Dharmanagar by train and then in the afternoon, they would reach their destination.
Birsachi Tripura, Kusum Tripura, Bishmarani Tripura and Tanisha Tripura came to collect snails today. While the three were looking for snails in the water, Biraschi Tripura got caught in a piece of electricity.
The residents informed about the incident immediately to the Dharmanagar fire department. Firefighters reached the spot and rushed her to Dharmanagar District Hospital, but doctors on duty declared Biraschi Tripura dead.
On the other hand, electric department officials said, they never complained about any wire-damaged in the area. As a result, they could not repair it as a part of taking precautions.
