AGARTALA, July 9 (TIWN): On Friday evening, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath hyped his Govt for not having any proxy system in the School Education system but sitting in the AC room, the Minister may not aware or acting to be unaware of the very fact that due to massive teachers’ crisis, Tripura Govt school teachers are bound to do lots of proxy classes every day which is a devastation of the so-called Quality Education. In other words, exploitation of teachers is underway by burdening them with heavy work without paying them for those proxy classes. What is proxy class in Govt schools ? It is like a class has 7 periods and teachers are available very low than 7. So, the headmaster or incharge orders other teachers to make up the class by giving proxy along with their everyday classes.
Sometimes, teachers are forced to do 6 to 7 classes as they do not have sufficient teachers in schools. Especially in rural schools, where only single-digit numbers teachers are appointed, they are forced to go through proxies, as otherwise, the class would remain empty. Ideally, a teacher should not be given more than 2 to 3 classes per day if quality in teaching is expected.
When schools are ordered to take monthly tests, the teachers are under heavy pressure. Whether they would do proxy classes or check homework or they would set question papers or check exam copies--------- overall chaos haunts the teachers throughout the year. Moreover, class teachers have to keep all evaluation records of a class and due to teachers' crisis in some schools, a single teacher is the class teacher for many classes.
Sometimes, language teachers are sent to science classes just to keep the class on and that's the reality of Tripura Education system currently.
In many schools, various classes are clubbed together due to a shortage of teachers making a mockery of the quality education, when Tripura is having over 3,600 TET qualified who are unemployed.
