AGARTALA, January 6 (TIWN): Two day long 16th annual conference of NEEA and National seminar organized by Department of economics, Tripura University will be held on January 8. The annual conference of NEEA and National seminar will continue till January 9.

 Speaking to the reporters at Tripura University City Centre, Gandhighat Joint Secretary of NEEA Dr. Indraneel Bhowmik said that the two themes selected for the conference are:

1) Natural Resource Management in the North East

2) Socio-economic Deprivations in the North East

He further said that the North Eastern Economic Association (NEEA), formed in 1997, is a non-political, non-partisan, voluntary regional economic association with a national perspective with members from not just the NE states but across the country. The objectives of the organization are to undertake, promote, co-ordinate and collaborate in the study of socio-economic problems and issues with emphasis on North East India. Provide a common platform for interaction of ideals and exchange of experiences among the scholars. Contribute in promoting an atmosphere conducive for research through dissemination of information and knowledge. Contribute in promoting technical competence for teaching and research in economics and allied subjects.

Currently the membership of NEEA is 575, he mentioned. Around 200 participants are going to take part in the 16th annual conference of NEEA. Out of the 200 participants 92 participants are from outside the state, he added.

Member of Parliament Jiten Chowdhury, Principal Secretary of Agriculture Dr. V.K. Bahuguna, Asset Manager of Tripura unit of ONGC, V P Mahawar and other dignitaries will remain present in the conference.
