AGARTALA, Jan 24 (TIWN): Amid much allegations against the police for not lodging FIR in all cases, crime against women remains high in Tripura, although BJP Govt said that the rate is lower than the communist regime. National report says, percentage of crime against women according to population is much higher in Tripura in compare to the rest of the nation. On the other side, data collection has become much tougher in Modi era as Central Govt stopped the flow of annual data release in various sectors. When BJP is celebrating 5th anniversary of PM Modi’s “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” movement, in Tripura ruling parties top leaders involve in various crime against women including sexual harassment of minors. BJP’s ally IPFT MLA Dhananjoy Tripura, who could not be seen for many days since after his wife lodged FIR, but controversy erupted in state media houses after he was spotted in the Assembly. Surprisingly, even after FIR no arrest was done.A case was registered at West Agartala Women Police station against one IPFT MLA in Tripura torturing wife physically at home in December month, 2019.Earlier, legal allegation raised, that IPFT MLA Dhananjoy Tripura has raped the girl in fake promise of marriage. Then the MLA filed in High Court demanding bail, but High Court rejected the plea.

Later being bound under law and legal problems, he had to marry the victim but soon after marriage, physical tortures started on her. In this case, the victim, now has accused the MLA and his mother for domestic violence.

22 gangrape incidents reported in Tripura in last 20 months whereas 1,891 crime against women cases were registered in local police stations. In the Home Dept’s own data, 473 girls were kidnapped or missing whereas around 4 people commit suicide everyday according to Home Dept’s data revealed by Chief Minister himself.

In the past 20 months, 722 cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and 1,241 people were arrested for trading in and smuggling various types of drugs.

When Tripura stands 4th in crime against women, increasing rate of violence and unnatural deaths has increased at an alarming rate in the state, the Tripura CM who claims that the state is on the right path of development, remains mum.
