AGARTALA, Jan 9 (TIWN): Jan 8’s successful strike exposed BJP’s decaying support in Tripura as public venting in resentments. In an irony of Modi era, top leaders including MP(via rigging) Pratima came on road to beg people to open their shops, entered banks and post office forcing for while to call off the strike. However, mid BJP led forcefulness and threatening, public response to the strike remained open and the strike called by trade unions became 100% successful, although after 12 noon, BJP started threatening to open shutters of shops but still strike continued with massive response. Public didn’t come out of houses, although Govt employees were forced by warning to join offices.CPI-M activists blocked railway in ADC and other areas and train services remained paralyzed for long. Due to lack of passengers other transport services were equally hampered.

Road and rail blockades were reported from several parts of Tripura on Wednesday as trade union activists along with Leftist supporters picketed in support of the 24-hour general strike against the Centre's "anti-people" policies. Ex-CM Manik Sarkar has mocked at BJP’s failure to fail the strike and Chief Minister Biplab Deb’s own constituency suffers from lack of support towards the Government.

The strikers took out rallies in parts of the state and blocked roads and railway tracks in North Tripura mostly. But police removed them to ensure movement of vehicles without hitch. In Tripura, government buses were plying normally but the number of private buses were very less.

Heavy police deployment was seen in several areas of the state. Around 25 crore workers are expected to participate in the strike called by trade unions INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF, UTUC along with various sectoral independent federations and associations.

Trade Unions called Strike, supported by student unions and bankers crippled Agartala city and other subdivisions of Tripura on Wednesday.

Along with working classes’ demands, the strike was also added by Anti-CAA protest and increasing unemployment in country. Shops, business centers, institutions remained shuttered-down in response to the strike, however, Govt has given strict warning to its employees to come to office and joining is must. Govt also warned action against all employees who will skip office on Strike Day.  Vehicle movements are too halted, whereas public were seen using motor bikes maximum for personal uses.
