Along with other northeast states, Tripura’s regional parties many times had protested against this proposed Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB). Announcing Rail and Road blockade on December 5, INPT has announced that all Indians must oppose Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).
INPT General Secretary Jagadish Debbarma said that it would cause losses to the all Indians if Citizenship Amendment Bill is passed in the Parliament.
“This bill is anti-Indian and thus Govt must withdraw the decision of introducing CAB in India. All sections of people regardless Tiprasa, Bengalis, Hindus, Muslims must go against this CAB. The BJP Govt failed to give 2 crores of jobs per year and in Tripura promised 50,000 jobs and missed-called jobs and now when they are failed to give Indians jobs, now introducing CAB which will be more burden for lands, jobs and other issues too”, said Debbarma on the background of the protest.
The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, or CAB, that was cleared by the Union Cabinet on Wednesday, is set to be tabled in parliament in the ongoing Winter Session. Among the provisions that have been proposed is one that allows the government to cancel registrations of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders who violate provisions of the Citizenship Act, "or any other notified law". The draft version of the bill also exempts parts of the Northeast, which has witnessed widespread protests, and will make it easier for non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to become Indian citizens.
