AGARTALA, Aug 12 (TIWN): Locals came in massive protest in 2 separate sub-stations in Agartala after frustrated of the load-shedding problems which paralyzed normal lives in the city on yesterday. Pragati Para Sub Station at the Ramnagar area and another sub-station in IGM Chowmuhani area faced mob attacks. They also broke furniture inside the sub-stations as few law and order problems allegedly emerged due to load-shedding. Reportedly such long power cut didn’t happen in last 10 to 12 years. If this is the condition of the Agartala city, the rest of Tripura’s situation can be predicted. Bank and hospital services have been majorly affected due to 14 hours long load-shedding which has become a big challenge for the Govt. On yesterday, 14 hours long load-shedding generated resentments among the capital city.

From the power department no statement has been given, although TSECL recently has increased meter reading rate 18%. Specially hospital service was hit highest due to massive load-shedding problems. Our correspondents, photographers also couldn't work properly in internet delivery sectors due to long power cut.

Load-shedding however has become a major problem for Tripura and all over the state power cut has made lives miserable. On the other side, Power Dept of Tripura, which is facing public rage due to massive load-shedding problems in the state, The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has sanctioned a Rs 1,925 crore project for upgradation of power generation. Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Barman has announced this to media. The amount was recently sanctioned to the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) after the state government had sought the ADB's assistance. Govt of Tripura headed by Chief Minister Biplab Deb managed two sets of loans from ADB.

One is for the power dept whereas another is  Rs. 1650 Crores were  approved for infrastructure development such as piped water supply, underground drainage, underground sewage or scientific septage management, roads with pavement etc in seven district Headquarter towns other than Agartala i.e. Khowai, Ambassa, Dharmnagar, Kailashahar, Udaipur, Bishramganj, Belonia. Asian Development Bank will provide Rs. 1650 Cr( $235 million) out of which 80% is grant in aid and the State will have to repay back only 20% loan in due course of time.   However, now Power dept has to take this opportunity to prove the Govt can truly transform the state into a model state brining a revolution in power management.

Jishnu Dev Barman while detailing the utilization of the funds said, “The project has been sanctioned for upgrading capacity of 63 MW Rokhia Project to 120 MW at an estimated cost of Rs 699.80 crore and modernising Gumti Hydro Electric Project at an estimated cost of Rs 1225.88 crore”.

Rs 12.7 crore for overhaul of the 49.15 km-long Ambassa-Gandacherra power transmission line has also been sanctioned.

TIWN published footage various times, how Govt hospitals are suffering due to power cut problems in Tripura along with other offices including banking service.

Dept’s Minister Jishnu Dev Barman recently in a media interview has slammed the previous CPI-M Govt for that saying, it’s responsible for poor infrastructure of the dept bound the present BJP Govt to receive loan of 1200 crores from Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The Asian Development Bank is a regional development bank established on 19 December 1966, which is headquartered in the Ortigas Center located in the city of Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, Philippines. The company also maintains 31 field offices around the world to promote social and economic development in Asia.
