Banned NLFT surrenders, Chief Minister applauds NLFT for decision of quitting violence, Welcomes in Mainstream

AGARTALA, Aug 10 (TIWN): As the faction group of NLFT has surrendered, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has praised NLFT for the courageous move to quit violence route and to return in the mainstream.

Govt now is preparing rehabilitation for the surrendered militants.

“I welcome the decision by NLFT & glad to inform you all that, A memorandum of settlement has been signed by @mygovindia, Gov't of Tripura & NLFT. NLFT has been involved in violence activities previously & is banned since 1997,now they have agreed to abjure the path of violence”, CM tweeted.

It is the faction group of NLFT.NLFT was banned under unlawful activities 1997 and was involved in massive violence.It has been responsible for 317 insurgency incidents with 28 security forces and 62 civilians lost their lives during the period of 2005-2015. However, there was no violence since 2016.

NLFT (SD) has agreed to leave the path of violence and to join the mainstream.88 militants with their weapons  are reportedly surrendering.The MoS was signed by Satendra Garg, Joint Secretary, (Northeast) of Minister of Home Affairs, Kumar Alok, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Subir Kumar Debbarma and Kajal Debbarma of NLFT.NLFT representatives called on Home Minister Amit Shah at New Delhi after signing the MoS. The Centre signed on Saturday a pact with an insurgent group of Tripura under which it has agreed to lay down arms and join the mainstream.
