AGARTALA, Aug 8 (TIWN): True to its spirit of exploring divergent areas of knowledge by engaging in academic discourse, the Department of English, Tripura University has organized a Workshop on Acoustic Phonetics and Speech Analysis through PRAAT from 5th August to 8th August, 2019.

The workshop is being conducted by Dr. C. Meena Debashish, an eminent phonetician from EFL-U, Hyderabad. In the Inaugural Session hosted in the Department, Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University, Prof. V.L.Dharurkar, an academician of International repute and eminence, in his inimitable and erudite style, while addressing an audience of almost 200 students, highlighted the necessity of Linguistics and the advancements that are taking place in this field of knowledge worldwide, courtesy PRAAT, Machine Translation and so on. Prof. Dharurkar, who has been a constant source of inspiration and motivation for the department in all its endeavors, once again underlined the urgency of bringing Tripura University at par with the rest of the nation and the world in the pursuit of academic excellence and employability.

His scholastic eloquence coupled with his awareness about the latest developments in Linguistics and Phonetics, as well as his cross-lingual and cross-cultural examples substantiating his arguments, lent his speech an aura of Keynote Address. 

The other dignitaries present on the dais included the Dean, Faculty of Arts and Commerce, Prof. C.B. Majumder, Dr. C. Meena Debashish, Head, Dept. of English, Prof. Shyamal Das and Prof. Ashes Gupta.
