UGC sanctioned Rs. 108.50 lakhs for SAP Project to Tripura University

AGARTALA, Aug 5 (TIWN): SAP (Special Assistance Program) Advisory Committee meeting held on August 02, 2019, at Department of Physics, Tripura University under the Chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor, Prof. V. L. Dharurkar and UGC Nominee, Prof. P. K. Basu, Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics, University of Calcutta and Prof. Rajendra Kumar Singh, Department of Physics, Banaras Hindu University for the proper execution of the project.

Prof. Dharurrkar in his inaugural speech congratulated the department for the SAP program. He pointed that this is the feather in the crown of University. With this project TU has appeared on the research map of India.  

Under this SAP project “Financial support under SAP" UGC has sanctioned amount: Rs. 108.50 lakhs for the five years from 2018 to 2023 which has been selected based on academic and research performance and the identified Thrust area is "Thin-film and Nanoscience”. Under this project three faculty members of the department of Physics viz; Prof D. Bhattacharjee, Dr. S. A. Hussain, and Dr. Ratan Das will work. Dr. S. A. Hussian, Assistant Professor, TU will be working as the coordinator of the project. A high-resolution computer lab with 15 computers and 5 laptops have been set up apart from the procurement of several major research instruments costing Rs 53 lakhs and relevant Books and journals for Rs 2 lakhs has been purchased for the departmental library for the execution of the project.

The said committee consisting of Prof. Darurkar, Chairman, Prof. P. K. Basu, and Prof. Rajendra Kumar Singh will look after the progress and will give suggestions time to time and will seat in meeting at least once in a year till five years. This fund is given for five years (2018-2023) for the development of the quality of both teaching and research activity in the department. To attend the conference seminar etc. financial assistance to the extent of Rs 10 lakhs has been arranged for TA/DA head. After five years of this project with satisfactory progress, the Department will be leveled as “Centre of Excellence” by the UGC. This is the 3rd department in TU to get such a prestigious project after the Department of Botany and Economics but the fund for the Department of Physics is the highest among the three departments. Apart from the above, it is important to mention in this regard that this Department (Physics) also got Rs 175 lakhs under FIST DST program for the improvement of research and teaching as a whole during 2016-2020.
