AMBASA (Tripura), Aug 2 (TIWN): Yaba tablet addiction has gripped the Northeast state Tripura at the root-level. With 20,000 yaba tablets three youths have been caught by Ambasa Police while carrying huge numbers of yaba tablets via Assam Agartala road. According to police information, getting informed via secret sources Ambassa Police caught a vehicle bearing number TR01 AV 6296 at the Sadhu Tila area, lined by Assam-Agartala national highway. While interacting, 3 of them talked in different manners and gave various versions. Immediately police searched the vehicle and recovered the yaba tablets. Three arrested persons are : 1) Nizam, 2) Jasim, 3) Shahjahan. Three of their homes are Bangladesh bordered Sonamura sub-division. Sonamura has been the biggest corridor for drug smuggling and still continuing as the biggest corridor. Total 20,000 yaba tablets worth Rs. 40 lakhs were seized from the arrested persons by Ambasa police.

Since few years, yaba tablets have become Tripura’s most seized contrabands, results of massive illegal border business. BSF almost everyday seizing huge numbers of contrabands where yaba tablets are common.

Amid everyday raids of Tripura Police under ‘Nesha Mukt Tripura’, the drug-addiction has continued to grip the state. Recently a news was flashed where a woman is found involved in drug-peddling at Ambasa and many more ruling party leaders were caught in illegal trafficking of contrabands.

One BJP MLA directly accused BJP leaders including present MP Pratima Bhowmik’s nexus with drug empire. Such incidents always raised fingers again at BJP’s top layer’s leaders, giving tough time to implement actions for Nesha-Mukt-Tripura. Police’s failure lies in its inactiveness to take action against BJP leaders as Pratima Bhowmik even after she threatened an IPS Officer Kiran Kumar on face to kill him saying, “Tereko hum abhi maar dalega”.

Police’s drives are praiseworthy but allegedly could not even curb 5% of the actual drug empire and without ratting the drug-den nurtured at the top-layer, the police can not end the drug-mafias.

Narcotism injected society in Tripura like hell in last few decades which is yet to curb down and hence the Drug-Free Tripura need a longer march. Amid police’s day to day raids and seizers, BSF has reported that 7 Indians, 6 Bangladeshis, 20 Myanmar nationals were arrested in last one month (May, 2019).
