AGARTALA, June 25 (TIWN): SUCI has condemned, protested against the deaths of BJP ruled state Bihar’s children.
Brain fever caused by AES among children has claimed over 145 lives in Bihar, causing more worry for the Nitish Kumar-led state government.
However, unconfirmed reports claimed that the death toll has already surpassed 150.
Sources suggested that the high number of deaths this year have been caused by hypoglycemia or a sudden drop in blood sugar levels, especially due to malnutrition and consumption of unripe litchi-a fruit grown in abundance in north Bihar-on an empty stomach.
As per information from the Bihar health department, brain fever or chamki bukhar--as it is locally called--has spread across 16 of 38 districts. At present, more than 600 patients are reportedly suffering from AES.
