AGARTALA, March 21 (TIWN): An estimated 3.2 crore casual labourers lost their jobs in rural India between 2011-12 and 2017-18, a 29.2 per cent slide over the previous survey. Of these, almost 3 crore were those working on farms. This translates to an over 40 per cent shrinkage in the casual farm labour workforce since 2011-12, according to the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) 2017-2018 report by NSSO which the government has declined to release. Casual labour refers to those employed from time to time according to exigencies of work. In case of Tripura, BJP promised to give 50000 jobs in the first year whereas the rate of unemployment has drastically increased in last 1 year. Reacting on BJP’s failed Govt already top leaders started quitting the party. CPI-M MP Jitendra Chaudhury today in a party programme hitting the Modi Govt on unemployment issue said, “Since 5 years with tax-payers money Modi had been visiting across the world promising youths of India will get huge job opportunities. Before the election 2 crores of jobs were guaranteed per year, but today either 2 crores jobs or make-in-India nothing could be done. From PM Modi to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley all rushed to Tripura with bundles of fake promises, but today people of Tripura are repenting for voting BJP".

On Wednesday, Congress National President Rahul Gandhi raising slogans of “Chowkidar Chor Hai” asked unemployed youths has BJP given 7.5 lakhs youths jobs ? In answer youths from Congress rally replied, “Jumla hai Jumla”.

Instead of recruiting job aspirants and filling up the vacant posts, BJP led State Govt has stopped recruitment, terminated contractual employees at a huge number, ongoing recruitment has been cancelled resulted double unemployment than the CPI-M Govt’s time. CMIE monthly report on unemployment revealed Tripura’s unemployment problems have been spiked up more jumped from 28.8% to 30.9% in January 2019. Tripura according to CMIE not only tops in unemployment but the second topper state is Jammu and Kashmir whose unemployment rate is 21%, around 10% less than Tripura. Haryana is holding the 3rd position with 18.4% whereas Himachal Pradesh 13.9%.

The unemployment rate in March month of 2018 was 15% but drastically increased in last 10 months followed by cancellation of all undergoing recruitment and massive termination of contractual employees. Just few days ahead of Assembly Election in Tripura, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had promised that if BJP comes in power, in the first year of the Govt 50,000 vacant posts will be filled up in Govt Depts, whereas instead of recruiting Govt has cancelled all the ongoing recruitments which were going on since the previous Govt’s time. Due to fundless condition of the treasury such problems had been aroused more as Central Govt after the election didn’t release funds for the state much, which it promised before election.

With the increasing unemployment problem in Tripura, resentment, frustration have been spiked up among the jobless youths and resentment brewed among Govt job aspirants whose jobs were not only cancelled half-done but the future job opportunities were also snatched by Govt notification. The unemployed youths thus left with only options as rearing cows and opening paan shops, which was also Chief Minister Biplab Deb's suggestion for 7 lakh unemployed youths.

On the other side, Chief Minister Biplab Deb has started gradually telling people outside that industry has been brought in Tripura  by BJP Govt, whereas the reality is harsh.

Recently Biplab Deb has also placed a peculiar claim saying 50% of the Vision Document of BJP is completed.
