CPI-M delegates met Election Commissioner of India, apprised Tripura’s undemocratic environment under BJP rule

AGARTALA, March 6 (TIWN): CPI-M delegates led by Party National General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and PBM Nilotpal Basu, CPI-M Tripura General Secretary Gautam Das, Tripura’s three MPs Jitendra Chowdhury,Sankar Prasad Datta, Jharna Das Baidya met Chief Election Commissioner of India Sunil Arora and two other Election Commissioners this noon and apprised them about complete absence of Democracy in the state under BJP rule. The delegation requested the Commission to take all measures to ensure free fair and peaceful Lok Aabha vote in the state The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Wednesday also urged the Election Commission to count the voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) slips in "at least 50 per cent of the booths" in the coming Lok Sabha polls. The delegation of the CPI-M also asked the poll panel as to how it seeks to address the financial implication of electoral bonds "which will impact the level playing field" for holding free and fair polls.

"The delegation further urged the commission to take appropriate steps for restraining the ruling party from using images and references of jawans' sacrifice in Pulwama and the strike by the (Indian) Air Force as the men in uniform belong to the nation as a whole and not to any particular political party," the CPI-M said in a statement.

Before the Delhi visit, keeping the Lok Sabha election ahead, CPI-M has demanded the central forces should be sent as early as possible in Tripura as state has no existence of democracy.

Addressing in a press conference at Melarmath Party Office, CPI-M State General Secretary Gautam Das said, “The early arrival of central force would stable the law and order and help to promote democratic environment. People here are afraid and thus we demand from EC that the central force should come right now so the pre-poll situation in future stay stable”.

Gautam Das further mentioned, till 31st January total 1515 physical attacks have taken place on CPI-M members, 203 were seriously injured and hospitalized, 106 party offices were burnt, 146 houses were burnt and 1352 houses were looted, vandalized.
