Golden Girl of Tripura in the final round of Asian Games

AGARTALA, September 23 (TIWN): The Golden Girl of Tripura &Commonwealth Games bronze-medallist Dipa Karmakar scored the best among the Indian girls in the Asian Games. Dipa Karmakar scored 13.950(Vault),10.150(Uneven Bars), 12.600(Balance Beam) and 1.150(Floor) to finish 23rd in the Individual rankings and ended up qualifying for the All-Around final in 16th place.Dipa Karmakar, who won bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, qualified for the Vault apparatus final, finishing with an average score of 14.400 to be third in qualification.

 Hong Unjong of North Korea was top with two vaults of 15.350 each while Oksana Chusovitina of Uzbekistan snuck into 2nd place with a score of 14.675. Dipa landed a perfect first vault to score 13.950 and then scored 14.850 in a 7.0 difficulty vault. Dipa ended up touching the mat with her hands on landing and then went off injured to get ready for the final.

In the Uneven Bar, Dipa Karmakar was the best of the Indian girls scoring a measly 10.150 on a 4.500 difficulty routine to finish 32nd in a field of 50. Pranati Nayak scored 9.450 to finish 40th while Pranati Das could only score 8.650 for 43rd place. Payel Bhattacharjee (7.900) and Aruna Budda Reddy (7.650) finished in 45th and 46th places respectively.

In the balance Beam Dipa Karmakar scored 7.400 for her execution of a 5.2 difficulty routine and her 12.600 score puts her in 20th place. Pranti Das (11.250, 37th place), Pranati Nayak (10.950, 40), Aruna Budda Reddy (10.600, 45) and Rucha Devakar 10.150, 46) failed to impress in the qualification. In total India scored 179.625 points in comparison with China which has scored 229.300.

Earlier Dipa has lightened up the name of India and Tripura in World’s Chamber at Commonwealth Games at Glasgow. Dipa Karmakar, the Indian Star, Bronze medal winner and the first woman to win medal in Gymnastics. Dipa won the Commonwealth bronze with an average score of 14.366.The 20-year-old had scored a mere 13.633 points in the first Vault, the lowest out of eight competitors in the final. Now everyone eyes at Dipa’s journeyfor Gold Medal at Asian Games.
