AGARTALA, Aug 3 (TIWN): The NRC reaction in Tripura came slowly, however it started with Trinamool on the day of announcement of NRC draft at Assam on July 30 which missed around 40 lakhs Bengalis from the citizenship list. With Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was first to react on NRC, Tripura Trinamool Congress media in-charge Sandeep Chakraborty said, “40 lakh people have been cancelled from Nationality list was basically it’s an Anti-Bengali drive. The people who have Adhaar, they were not given citizenship. Many people are living since 5 generations, but when Supreme Court had asked the Central Govt about NRC they Govt was silent”. The second reaction came from Congress. Congress President Birjit Sinha on Tuesday said, “Yesterday neighboring state Assam’s NRC list was published, which excluded 40 lakh people. It’s a matter of heavy tension. In this, the Assam Govt and the Central Govt have played a pre-planned intrigue with the citizens. Indeed it’s a deep intrigue" !

“Now BJP is giving excuse that it’s Supreme Court’s Direction, but if BJP Govt wanted, it could appeal in the Supreme Court against it, but both the state and central Govt was silent on that issue”.

Chief Minister Biplab Deb  while replying media queries at Nagpur RSS Headquarter has announced there is no demand of NRC in Tripura. “In Tripura, everything is organized. There is no need and demand of NRC in Tripura at all and also in Assam there is nothing to be panic. SarbanadaSonowal is capable Chief Minister and he will handle it nicely. But few foreign thinkers are deliberately generating panic”. CM added.  Biplab Deb, the Chief Minister of Assam's neighbour Tripura, has described the citizenship row as "not a big issue".

CPI-M was last to react on NRC. However it was nit through any official press release but CPI-M Ex-Minister Badal Choudhury said, “The people of India who accepted the partition of India in exchange of Independence, today they are again the victim after 72 years of independence. Overnight 40 lakh people have become refugees on own land ? Is it a joke ? How can they keep armies, Indian President’s family members, govt employees names out of NRC ? After 72 years of independence people are identifying as Indian and Foreigner, which included Ex- President of India late Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed’s family members, who were MLAs. The pain of partition again green today”.

However, overall all main stream political parties have been against NRC and BJP Chief Minister has rejected NRC for Tripura amid his party’s silence.
