Bangladesh based Terrorist NLFT leader surrendered with family

AGARTALA, Aug 1 (TIWN): Bangladesh based terrorist organization National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militant Rabindra Debbarma, who was posted as Warrant Officer in Bangladesh camp has surrendered with his family before Tripura Govt after 18 years of his joining in NLFT. The surrendering has taken place in front of BSF DIG Sector HQ, Panisagar Sindhu Kumar at 11.50 am on Wednesday. Rabindra Debbarma, S/O- Lt. Sachindra Debbarma & Chaitralaxmi Debbarma, has surrendered with his wife Chonta Tripura (27), four years daughter Jasmine Debbarma and two years son Mwichanti Debbarma. He is actual resident of Natun Bazar Brendra Debbarma Para under Chailengta PS of Dhalai District. He joined in NLFT in year 2000 and his last location of camp has been identified as Sikari Bari near Shilchuri in Bangladesh.The former NLFT militant's family is also residing in Dhalai District. They are : 1) Budhiram Debbarma (34 years, Brother), 2) Biswari Debbarma (30 years, Brother), 3) Karamoti Debbarma (28 years, Sister), 4) Chlynty Debbarma (26, Sister).

The NLFT is listed as a terrorist organisation in the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2002. The state government contends that the Baptist Church of Tripura supplies arms and gives financial support to the NLFT. In April 2000, according to the state government, the secretary of the Noapara Baptist Church in Tripura, Nagmanlal Halam, was arrested with explosives and confessed that for two years he had been buying explosives for the NLFT. In 2000, the NLFT threatened to kill Hindus celebrating the religious festival of Durga Puja. At least 20 Hindus in Tripura have been killed by the NLFT in two years for resisting forced conversion to Christianity.

In early 2000, 16 Bengali Hindus were killed by the NLFT at Gourangatilla. On May 20, 2000, the NLFT killed 25 Bengali Hindus at the Bagber refugee camp. In August 2000, a tribal Hindu spiritual leader, Shanti Kali was shot dead by about ten NLFT guerrillas who said it wanted to convert all people in the state to Christianity.

 In December 2000, Labh Kumar Jamatia, a religious leader of the state's second largest Hindu group, was kidnapped by the NLFT, and found dead in a forest in Dalak village in southern Tripura. According to police, rebels from the NLFT wanted Jamatia to convert to Christianity, but he refused.

A local Marixt ribal leader, Kishore Debbarma, was clubbed to death in Tripura's Sadar by militants from the Biswamohan faction of the NLFT in May 2005.

In 2001, there were 826 reported terrorist attacks in Tripura in which 405 people lost their lives and 481 kidnappings were made by the NLFT and related organisations such as the Christian All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTP).
