Agartala, Sept 12 (TIWN): Veteran Journalist and Freedom Fighter Jiten Pal passed away at the age of 101. Minister of Information & Cultural Affairs Bhanulal Saha, Opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman, MLA Asish Saha, Gopal Roy and Social Activist Panchali Bhattacharjee went to his house and pay last tribute to this veteran leader. He is survived by one son and one daughter.
Sri Jiten Paul was admitted to GB Hospital on last Wednesday for the operation of gland tumuor. There he breathed his last yesterday night at 1.00a.m.He was suffering from age related disease for some time. Today morning his body was taken to his home where tributes were paid by persons of different spheres. After that local Bharat Tirtha Club paid rich tributes. The body was next taken to Agartala Press Club where senior and junior Journalsits, Secretary of Press Club, Secretary of Tripura Working Journalists Association pay tribute to Sri.Paul with flowers. The body was then taken to Battala Maha Samsan9crematorium) where his last rituals were performed.
Jiten Paul was born on 26th February in the year 1914 in Bangladesh’s Singrai village under Brahmanbariya District. Last year this veteran Journalist had completed his 100th Birthday. He breathed his last at the age of 101 years. He appeared in Tripura in the year 1939. Mr.Paul was the editor of first Bengali Newspaper “Jagaran”. It is to be mentioned in this connection that Jagaran was established on 2nd October in the year 1954. Apart from Journalism Mr.Paul had written seven books and was associated with various social, cultural organizations. Agartala Press Club, Tripura working Journalist association and Tripura Newspaper society mourned over his death, expressed peace and comfort to the family members.
Paul's body was brought to the Agartala Press Club where many people paid their last respects.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Information and Finance Minister Bhanulal Saha, CPI-M leaders Bijan Dhar and Gautam Das, opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman and former chief minister Samir Ranjan Barman paid tributes to Paul at his residence.
Paul also took part in India's freedom struggle and was jailed for years during the British Raj. He authored as many as 12 books.
