Agartala, September 10 (TIWN): The Department for Rural Development (RD) has filed a missing complaint with the police authorities at New Capital Complex police station today. The missing CPU didn’t have any significant data but mainly used for handling letters and e-mails between state and central government or different departments of the government, Minister for Rural Development (RD) Naresh Chandra Jamatia said here today.

Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat here this evening, RD Minister Jamatia admitted that a CPU from a computer system was missing from an office of the department in the secretariat. He denied all reports that the computer was made to vanish to hide evidences of misappropriations of funds or other anomalies.

The security system of Tripura civil secretariat today came under severe criticism after a central processing unit (CPU) of a computer containing valuable data of central sponsored schemes implemented under the Department of Rural Development (RD) reportedly went missing.

Other files went missing from the civil secretariat at the new capital complex in the early hours today as well. The computer was reportedly used at the office of the Rural Development Minister Naresh Chandra Jamatia.

Reacting to the issue, RD minister Jamatia today said that despite no major losses were incurred due to the theft, the Department would investigate into the issue on periodic basis. The police was informed about the incident as well, he said.

We have reports that the concerned had frequent incidents of computer spares like mouse, keyboards missing, the minister added.

Opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman earlier demanded a probe probe into the incident and said, “I am suspecting the role of some insiders behind the incident as they targeted this particular central processing unit alone”.
