AGARTALA, Jan 20 (TIWN): Complaints has been raised against some local cable channels for showing continuously Tripura Govt's advertisements even after Model Code of Conduct had come into effect with election date's announcement. Addressing a press conference, Tripura BJP State Observer Sunil Deodhar said, "We have raised the issue to Dy Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain that many local channels are violating EC's guidelines. Jain said, the matter is already under EC's notice and strict actions will be taken against the channels if anymore found". Deodhar also directly asked all cable channels in press conference not to show anymore Tripura Govt's advertisement as model code of conduct have been implemented. If they show any state govt advertisement strict actions will be taken against the channels. In case of Newspaper also this guideline is active as Election Commission enforced model code of conduct for upcoming Assembly Election on Feb 18.
On January 18, it was announced that the Assembly Elections in Tripura will be conducted on February 18, while people in Meghalaya and Nagaland will be voting on February 27. Counting of votes in all the three states in the north-east is on March 3.
"The code of conduct has come into effect from today in Nagaland, Meghalaya and Tripura ahead of the assembly elections in these three states", Chief Election Commissioner AK Jyoti told reporters on January 18 at New Delhi.
