Agartala, August 23 (TIWN): Internal clashes among a smuggling and illegal gun running racket at Sonamura left one Md. Iman Hossain dead with bullet wounds in the head at Rahimpur in Boxanagar under Sonamura sub-division on Friday. We couldn’t arrest anybody yet; efforts are on to pressurize families of the accused to bring them back from Bangladesh where they are suspected to have taken refuge, police sources said.
Md. Iman Hossain of Gourangamala village in Rahimpur was involved with a local smuggling racket for years, local sources said. He was found dead with bullet injuries on his head on the other side of the barber wire fence near the village.
BSF and police officials with sniffer dogs recovered the body on Friday. The sniffers reportedly indicated towards the Bangladeshi territory which indicated that the killers might have fled for Bangladesh, cops suggested.
An official on duty at Kalamchoura police station said this afternoon that the police had adopted a tactic to put pressure on the family of Hanif Miah and Md. Sohel, both reported to be top functionaries of the smuggling and illegal gun running racket and accused to have killed Iman. The police official said that both were confirmed to be absconding since Iman was executed.
SDPO Ashok Kumar Sinha said that the police had tightened security in the area to prevent further escalation of the situation. BSF officials from Kalamchoura BOP said that vigil was tightened along the Indo-Bangla international border.
Preliminary investigation suggested that he might have been killed with small firearms in close distance.
A source inside the BSF earlier arrested smuggler and illegal gun runner Abu Khayer from Boxanagar under Kalamchoura police station on August 17 this year.
