‘Tripura's Law and Order needs to be improved’ : EC

AGARTALA, Nov 29 (TIWN): Chief Election Commissioner A.K. Jyoti while addressing a press meet State Guest House before the ending of his journey in Tripura, expressed concerned about law and order situation in Tripura, which must be improved.

Addressing the press meet, Jyoti said, “During the visit, the Election Commissioner had met various political party leaders to understand the issues and concerns. Commission have noted all the suggestions gathered by various party members views for conducting a free, fair and peaceful election. The Commission also discussed DCs, IGs, DIGs, SPs, Home Secretary and Chief Secretary and other senior officers. The commission also held a discussion on strategies with various enforcement agencies”

“During the meetings  issues were raised by various political parties, demanded that the Law & order situation need to be improved in state. The parties also raised demands for deployment of CRPF and their deployment to be monitored directly by ECI and CAPF especially across the sensitive booths and polling areas. The political parties also discussed on the videography at every polling booths. The parties also demanded for the immediate sealing of the borders. Some political parties demanded that intimidation of political agents sitting in the polling stations to be checked”, said Commissioner.

“Some parties raised issue of action against the parties trying to spread communal violence, transfer of polling officers. Some parties also highlighted that non-permanent teachers have been appointed as BLOs, which affects the neutrality of BLO”.

However, he further promised about free and fair election procedures in 2018 and assured about EC’s proper action against all complaints.
