'Don't believe in rumours and help police' : SP West says after Jiban Debnath's dead body recovered

KHUMULWNG / AGARTALA, Nov 4 (TIWN): In statement SP West Abhijit Saptarshi said, "Jiban Debnath of Shubhas Nnagar PS East Agartala, driver of Hyundai verna vehicle no. WB o6 H 3555 was missing since 20/09/2017. He was last seen at Dukmali Bazar, Khumulwng. PS Radhapur when a riotous mob attacked the vehicle driven by him an vehicle of OC Radhapur PS subsequently torching both vehicles. Jiban was driving one Sajjan Kumar of Delhi and Biswajit Debbarma of Agartala who feld the scene due to violence and had taken shelter nearby school. Jiban was untraceable since then and it was suspected that he may have been lynched. A missive search was conducted in adjoining area of the place occurrence by PS alongwith TSR and CRPF".

"Based on intelligence two local persons were arrested for their suspected involvement in the violence. Based on their interrogation and secret  sources possible spots where Jiban  Debnath may have been lynched and his body disposed were identified. Over one month police conducted searches probable place which was hampered by incessant rains and landslides. Finally on 04.11.17 a place near Sukiakabra was  zeroad and after a prolonged digging, remains suspected to be of Jiban Debnath were recovered by district police in presence of sub-div  magistrate and assisted by CRPF contingent", said SP.

"Based on investigation and intelligence it is transpired that arrested issued persons lynched Jiban Debnath on the fateful night on 20.09.2017 and buried the body near  Sukiakhabra tio destroy the evidence. The remains will be sent to morgue observing formalities and necessary Forensic tests will be conducted for identification. Arrested accused are currently in judicial custody and further investigation is underway. This refers to Radhapur PS case no. 19/17 u/s / 341/436/464/34 IPC in which relevant section will be added soon", said Saptarshi.

"It is appealed to common people through media not to believe in any rumours and help police and administration in maintaining peace and tranquility", said Saptarshi.
