AGARTALA, Oct 28 (TIWN): Whistle of Rajdhani Express catered mass gathering at Agartala Railway Station since the morning of Saturday. With a historical move, Railway Minister for State Rajen Gohain has flagged off much awaiting Rajdhani Express at Agartala at 2.30 PM. The Express train is the 9th train that Tripura is getting after Broad Gauge which was launched in 2016. Mass gathering was seen in the inaugural program at Agartala Railway Station. Addressing the gathering Rajen Gohain said, "This is a day of celebration as Tripura has received the best train of India. Till day only talks about Northeast development could be heard but no Govt actually cared for Northeast as Modi Govt is now taking cares".

"PM Modi had determined to develop Northeast. Today we have broad gauge in maximum states of Northeast. Only at Sikkim, we couldn't launch BG service due to land acquisition problems. Tripura is undergoing tremendous changes, development due to Railway expansion and I can see that", said Gohain. 
" Today across the country Railway is expanding its network, laying tracks to connect, join all the States", said Gohain.
"Within 2019 all Northeast states' capitals to be joined with BG connection", the Minister added.
Gohain further said that Modi Govt, not only for Railway, but has full concerns for roadmaps developments of India. 
Rajdhani Express has been flagged off with thousands of passengers amidst cheers, enthusiasm, whistles, TIWN reporting from the Railway Station.

"The Rajdhani Express from Agartala would reach Anand Vihar station in around 40 hours covering 16 stations in Tripura, Assam, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh," Railway official spoke with TIWN.

Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy was present in the inaugural function along with two state ministers - PWD and Revenue Minister Badal Choudhury and Transport Minister Manik Dey, three CPI-M MPs and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Dilip Das besides others.

Agartala would be the third city in northeast India after Assam's Guwahati and Dibrugarh to be connected by a Rajdhani Express. 

With the extension of the metre gauge track up to Agartala through southern Assam, Tripura became the first state capital in the northeast in October 2008 to be brought on India's rail map after the country's independence. Subsequently, the metre gauge was converted into broad gauge.

The NFR is now further extending the railway lines up to southern Tripura's bordering town Sabroom, 135 km south of Agartala.

Official inauguration of Rajdhani is completed with full fanfares at Agartala Railway Station. Local people have been thronged to see the glimpses of red-coloured Rajdhani Express.

Agartala got broad gauge facility by March 2016. Works for conversion in BG from a small meter gauge track from Lumding to Silchar in Assam was completed in March 2015 Freight services to Agartala had already resumed by then.

It was 31st July 2016 when Suresh Prabhu the then Railway Minister of India inaugurated the Agartala-New Delhi, ‘Tripura Sundari Express linking the broad gauge with the rest of the country.  

Rajdhani Express from Agartala Railway Station with 14 coaches in total to travel from Agartala to New Delhi with an exclusive journey experience. Among the 14 coaches 1 coach will be for AC (First Class), 1 coach for AC Hot Buffet Car, 2 will be Tier and rest of 8 will be AC-3 Tier (Power cum Luggage Van).
