AGARTALA, Sep 29 (TIWN): The age old tradition of Buffalo sacrifice at Durga Bari temple on Friday marked the celebration of Maha Navami-the last day of the Durga Puja. Although cruel, but still superstitious people thronged to Durgabari temple premises to have a glance of such a barbaric practice. The innocent animals killing on temple premises is considered as the holi practice of 'sacrifice'. Same cruelty followed in Christianity and Islam where mute animals are killed in the name of 'sacrifice'. On Maha Navami Goddess Durga is worshiped as Mahisasuramardini which means the Annihilator of the Buffalo Demon. It is believed that on Maha Navami day Durga killed the demon Mahishasura. Although 21st Century has come, but Educated people over-signifying the spiritual believes keep faith on such practices and taking that opportunity a section of people doing business for decades.

However, hopefully oneday it will stop in Tripura also, when a knid hearted, educated person will take step from the Ministry level and people will flow in Vevekananda, Ramakrishna beliefs.

To mark the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura, a buffalo is sacrificed in front of Goddess Durga every year at Durga Bari. The Buffalo is sacrifice after proper consignment with the state government.

Amidst huge crowd of devotees, the buffalo was killed  to mark the occasion of Maha Navami. The buffalo was sacrificed at the premises of the Durga bari temple at 6 in the morning. Once in a year on the day of Mahanavami, a buffalo is sacrificed to Goddess Durga to celebrate the victory of the Goddess over the demon Mahisashura.

Thousands of people thronged to the Durga bari temple to offer prayers to Goddess Durga.

The animal sacrifice was done at 6 in the morning. Large number of crowd was witnessed at the premises of the Durga bari temple to offer prayers to Goddess Durga.  Durga Puja is the biggest festival in the Eastern part of India when lakhs of people take on the streets to see the Durga idols and marquees.

The Tripura government sponsors two of the oldest Pujas every year though the Left Front, that has ruled the state for the past 24 years, is ideologically opposed to any religious faith. At the over 500-year-old Durga Bari Puja, the district magistrate of West Tripura is the "chief sevait" while the budget of Rs 3.5 lakh this year was approved by Maharani Bibhu Kumari Devi, widow of the state's last king Maharaja Kirit Bikram Kishore Manikya.
