AGARTALA, Sep 5 (TIWN): Agartala paying heavy price for CPI-M Govt’s 3 decades apathy, unabated corruption looting Central funds as flood affected people undergoing hell sufferings. A large section of Howrah riverbank was collapsed on Tuesday at Khayerpur, Old Agartala. Atleast 4 houses had been fully damaged on Tuesday at Khayerpur with the 3 day long moderate showers continue to hit the Northeast India. However, even though a hilly state, Tripura was highly affected this year during monsoon allegedly due to deforestation, rivers losing navigability fueled by govt's least bothering to dig the rivers’ navigability level. However, no casualties have been reported so far. People living in nearby rivers are now worried as the land collapse has still continued.

The serious subsidence occurred during the night along a part of the local roads at there.

Local MLA Pabitra Kar visited places since the morning, but failed to pacify flood victims as locals demanding proper compensation. A street running along the riverbank was also damaged, causing trees, utility posts, and electric wires tripped.

As per Disaster Management’s data total 30 relief camps were opened this time, whereas 1394 families are still affected due to the rain. Total 12 boats have been deployed.

On Tuesday the weather was seen without rain, with partly cloudy even though high chances of rains still prevails.

Torrential rains today led to inundation of large swathes of land in Tripura even as the situation in flood-ravaged Assam and Uttar Pradesh inched closer to normal.  Around 20,000 rain-affected people in Agartala left their homes and took shelter in 30 relief camps, a senior official said.

West Tripura District Magistrate Milind Ramteke said 12 boats were engaged in relief and rescue work and NDRF personnel were on alert.
