AGARTALA, June 30 (TIWN): Tripura's maximum bankers undergone a hectic day ahead of GST meeting at the parliament from the midnight. Since 11.30 AM no customer care was given in renowned banks as they said to be 'busy with GST'. However, as per rules and guidelines, media was not allowed to enter the banks for any photography. The introduction of GST in India is a substantial shift from the current tax regime. Currently, a NBFC, Banks with pan-India operations can discharge its service tax compliances through a single `centralized’ registration. However, under GST, such Banks/ NBFCs would need to obtain a separate registration for each state where they operate. Thus, the pressure is likely to high on banks too and nothing was different in case of Tripura.
However, clarifying the confusions and thanking the states for accepting GST Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, "Even though GST was opposed with some angels but one day India had to come under single tax system being a one Nation".
On the other side Sitaram Yechury said, "The govt has not done its homework, and the country is not prepared for the GST launch tomorrow. There are many problems with it, for eg., multiple rates, and our MSMEs will be badly affected. We had thus asked for a parliamentary scrutiny of GST Council decisions, but BJP doesn’t want that scrutiny. That is neither a good democratic nor a healthy economic practice. The launch of GST is certainly not comparable to events in the Freedom movement. Only thrice so far has the Parliament met at midnight, only to commemorate dates with the Freedom struggle, that is the sanctity of the midnight meets. This is just pure showmanship like everything else in this govt, a complete waste of public money, as reportedly Rs 5 crore are being spent on renovation for the event. We don’t approve of this way of marking GST. There is neither a boycott call nor a whip from us to attend the event".
"GST was urged by Chdambaram jit in 2006 by Pranab Mukharjee in 2011 and finally with technological support system the assessment will be easy", said Jaitley.
"Obviously same Taxation doesn't mean it will be same for farmers and industrialists. Apart from that everyone will want their tax should be less, but tax has to be given transparently. 11 % tax may be increased to 13 % and 13 % may reduced to12 % but without giving tax what kind of Desh-Bhakti it is?", said Arun Jaitley on the background of GST launching.
Arun Jaitley also thanked the states for implementing GST. However, state Tripura also implemented GST.
