AGARTALA, July 29 (TIWN): Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the culmination of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, is being celebrated across Tripura on Tuesday. Eid prayers were offered this morning in Eidgahs or open grounds and the mosques.Since the moon was sighted in the state on Monday, Eid – ul – Fitr is being celebrated today.
Chief Minister Sarkar has extended greetings and best wishes to state’s people on Eid-ul-Fitr. In his message, Sarkar said that this festival following holy month of Ramazan gives the message of mutual harmony, fraternity and affection. He said that festival of Eid gives the message of serving the humanity. He wished for peace in the state and country. The state and India should continue to progress. He also wished welfare and health of all. He urged people of the state to celebrate Eid with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm.
Ramadan is the ninth of 12 months in the Islamic calendar. The month honours the Angel Gabriel's revelation of the Quran, the holy scripture of Islam, to the Prophet Mohammed at a meditation retreat in a cave about 1,400 years ago.
Fasting, charity, daily prayers, the declaration of faith and pilgrimage to Mecca are the five pillars of Islam. During Ramadan, Muslims offer special prayers called Taraweeh at the end of their usual five-time prayers.
Ramadan lasts for 29 or 30 days and culminates in the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, tens of millions across the Muslim world make every effort to be more spiritual.Muslims abstain from food, drink and other pleasures from sunrise to sunset.
