SONAMURA, June 13 (TIWN): With a major success, finally the Bangladeshi smuggler Litan Ahmed (29) was nabbed while escaping from Tripura's Srimantapur border at Sonamura, better known as corridor for smugglers by BSF on Tuesday.

Ahmed had escaped from Agartala Airport on Monday after he was caught during security checking with 15 gold biscuits and a gold chain.

But like everytime, police have failed to arrest the smuggler, but thanks goes to BSF for this action at around 2 PM.

As per Sonamura source, the ruling political party knows everything and about all the illegal business held via Sonamura border.

Srimantapur International Checkpost has turned as the paradise for all kinds of smugglers. But, amidst much threats surprisingly the border fencing is getting delayed  across Tripura.

One top Police Official who worked at those areas for years told TIWN that Sonamura is just an open Bangladeshi land. Another former SDM of Sonamura who was transferred after he destroyed a huge area of ganja lands, said "border fencing is quite impossible for that area as few smuggling organizations are deciding those international issues from Tripura".

In last month (May-10) : A special investigation team led by BSF, BGB, Tripura Police have revealed that the 4 smugglers were handed over to Tripura Police night actually residents of Bangladesh Comilla Dist. A BGB team arrived in state after the smugglers were arrested, has been identified as : 1) Parimal Saha (37), Abul Kalam Azard (22), Mh. Ali (37), Sajibar Rahman (43) who were nabbed with 2 lakhs 3 thousand US Dollars along with valid VISA, Passports from Simatapur Border. The investigation revealed that the smugglers via Tripura use to carry gold from Bangladesh, whereas after reaching at Kolkata they exchange them with US dollars & again via Tripura they reach their destination Bangladesh. However, SDPO Babul Das said the matter is fully under Custom office. TIWN Sonamura correspondent reported that on Tuesday night BSF 145 Btln had banned those smugglers and handed over to Tripura Police at the night. On Wednesday a meeting was conducted among India and Bangladesh officials and later the culprits were handed over to custom office.

Sonamura, the “gateway of all kinds of illegal business” for smugglers still unsafe, due to lack of border fencing at many places of Border areas.  This border area allegedly acts as the safe corridor for Ganja, liquor, drug smuggling.

Tripura's Indo-Bangla border turning sensitive due to Bangladesh Govt's week-long clampdown on dismantling all terrorist outfits and their networks in the country.

Apart from that Tripura's 35 % borders are yet unfenced.
