AGARTALA, June 11 (TIWN): Amara Bangali, a small political party in Tripura in a press conference at Agartala raising the issue of Darjeeling recently held riot-like situation said, “We highly condemn the Gorkhas attempt of not accepting Bengali as compulsory language in schools. Gorkhas came from outside and so they have to follow the Indian rules and cultureâ€.
“We appreciate Mamata Banerjee for taking such a decision that the Bengali language will be compulsory in whole West Bengal from 2018”, said Hari Gopal Debnath, Amara Bangali Secretary.
“In Tripura as 69 % people are Bengali and 95 % people understand this language. So Govt must adopt the policy of West Bengal Govt and make Bengali as a compulsory language for all”, said Debnath.
However, this press conference had turned more controversial at the ending with media raised question, ‘Will not such a statement create Gorkha like tensions in Tripura when tribal-non/tribal all are residing here ?
