KAMALPUR, June 11 (TIWN): Would the dream of the border haat be realised? Would Kamalpur really get its border haat ultimately? Would the administrative words of happy future not turn into mere political promises? All these questions continued to hover the minds of the inhabitants here at Kamalpur and they earnestly wanted quick realisation of the long-cherished dream.

The matter of border haat remained to be a matter of unyielding happy dreams having much possibility and potential. Around 2009, the setting up of the border haat at Kamalpur became a hot cake. Several times the delegations of high rank and profile from both the countries visited the proposed site of Ganganagar, held bilateral meets and even advanced further to set up import-export hub at Kamalpur. But then nothing was achieved after much ado.

Once again the issue got rejuvenated on 6th June, as the Border Haat Management Committee of both India and Bangladesh held their first joint meeting at Kamalpur Town Hall on that day. The ADMs of both the countries, border security force officers, police officers, custom officials and representatives participated in the meeting. They jointly announced that Sonarai would be the place of the haat and after fulfilling some bilateral issues the haat would start journey from December of this year.

Now such lofty promises remained nothing new for the inhabitants of the sub-division. For years together, they got habituated with such promises and knew well to not to believe on them. Still, hopes gave birth to new dreams. And the locale wanted quick realisation of the project.
