AGARTALA, July 26 (TIWN): A secretary level meeting of Tripura and Mizoram government was held recently for resolving border line dispute between both states. Speaking to reporters, Swapan Saha secretary of revenue department said that the meeting was held at regional office of Survey of India, Silchar on July 22. Fulldengshai in Sabrul ADC village of Jhampui Hill block is close to Tripura and Mizoram border. Mizoram government has been claiming the area belongings to them as per 1933 Assam Gazette notification, whereas Tripura rejected the claim stating that Survey of India’s published toposheet clearly indicated that the area falls within the states boundary said Mr Saha.
In the meeting it was decided that a survey will be conducted again by Survey of India after the end of ongoing monsoon. The delegate of Tripura was led by Swapan Saha, Secretary of Revenue department and Lalgiak Zamu joint secretary of home department led the Mizoram delegate. The meeting was coordinated by director of Survey of India, Dr. S. K. Singh.
The Mizoram government has formed a five-member committee to resolve the boundary disputes with neighboring Assam and Tripura. The boundary committee headed by former minister C. Chawngkunga would study the long-running inter-state border line row and would make recommendations to the state government at the earliest.
The long unsettled Mizoram – Tripura, Mizoram-Assam, Meghalaya-Assam and Arunachal Pradesh-Assam boundary disputes occasionally creates troubles between the villagers and officials of these states. Meghalaya was formed in January 1972 while Mizoram became a state in 1987. Tripura and Manipur were sovereign princely states, which became part of India.
