UDAIPUR, July 26(TIWN): CID investigating team continues its investigation on 19th July police atrocities in Udaipur and the killing of three persons by a police vehicle TR03-0986 alleged to be driven by ASI Tapan Das. On Friday CID team consisting of DSP CID Dilip Kumar Bhowmik, Sub Inspector Jayanta Roy and Shekhar Bhattacharjee visited the houses of Debasish Deb (Bapi), who was killed in that incident and met his widowed wife, his child and his aged mother. The team recorded their statement as well his neighbours.

From there the CID team went to the injured Ajit Das (now being treated in ILS Hospital Agartala) and also met his family members. The team then came to Radhakishorepur Police Station and had meetings with the police officials there. CID team has also asked for the CD of CCTV footages on the day's of violence. In the afternoon the CID team went to Gouri Saha's (killed in that accident) house in Rabindrapally to meet and record statement of her family members. Gouri's sister Laxmi Saha too was killed on 19th July.

Actually both the sisters were going to a relative's house as Laxmi's daughter's was scheduled to held within a few days. But her visit to Udaipur brought her catastrophe. CID may also go to Sonamura to meet Laxmi's bereaved family. CID team has got some important clues that can easily bring a light to the real reasons behind the unruly situation that arose in Udaipur after the terrible incident when common people turned mob; thanks to total negligence of SP Gomati Thirungana Sambandhana S and Officer In Charge of Radhakishorepur Police Station Kanti Lal Baidya. Most of the police persons are unhappy with SP's role after the accident.

A top level police official told TIWN correspondent," We were waiting for the SP to guide us especially after the accident as it was obvious that people would make protests as the guilty was a policeman. But he did not even come to the police station even for a single time. In the afternoon when DIG Southern Range Sourav Tripathi and I G (Law & Order) Anurag Dhyankar arrived Radhakishorepur Police Station then only SP Gomati was seen."

The official also said that it was due to SP's negative role common people lost faith on the entire police unit of Gomati District. He said ," It is really shameful that an SP who was seen to take strict action against those bikers without wearing helmets standing on the road even at 9.30pm , was not serious to see that the vehicles used by the police departments have at least fitness certificates. SP did not take beg apology from the common people on that terrible incident but on the contrary he went into hiding and situation went from bad to worse."

The official added that since Sambandhan joined as the SP this was the second time that police charged lathis on common people and both times without any such orders from Executive Magistrate, but he did not take any action against the guilty. Rather SP took interest in registering cases against those protesters examining video footages from a same private TV channel.

The police official told TIWN," It is only a matter of time. Many police officers including the S P will be transferred may be in the next week itself. Even higher police officials are not happy with the SP's conduct." It is also learnt that lower level police persons are discontent with the way Dilip Debbarma has been made scape goat though it is now clear that ASI Tapan Das was driving the killer vehicle on 19th July. Even CID officials too are sure of it as Dilip is totally unhurt which cannot have been possible after such a terrible incident had Dilip been the driver.

ASI Tapn Das is learnt to be in Agartala undergoing treatment with 12 stitches on the head that clearly indicates that he was on the driving seat. Even Dilip Debbarma in his statement to DM Gomati and CID team told that ASI Tapan was driving the TR03-0986 Mahindra jeep on 19th July. Meanwhile CID team and DM Gomati Sonal Goel are preparing their reports. The people especially the women raised allegation of mollestation by the police during the Mass Hearing in DM office.

DM also held meetings with the delegations of Udaipur Merchant Association as the Association complained against police atrocities on innocent businessmen entering their business centres. Even after a week people are really angry with the police and to those traffic police staffs who charged lat his on common people including school students and women violating their service conduct rules. A common demand for Judicial Enquiry is raised in Udaipur as people believe that only then guilty police officials will be punished.
