AGARTALA, May 27 (TIWN): Tripura CM Manik Sarkar tried to snatch the credit of Broad-gauge railways, just as former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi is now fighting for the credit of India's longest and Asia's second longest Dhola-Sadiya bridge, saying it was under Congress Era that Manmohon Singh for approving the mega bridge project. But PM Modi exposing Congress's negligence to fulfill the dream projects said "For five decades you people have been waiting for a bridge. That has now been inaugurated today. If Atal Bihari Vajpayeeji had returned to power in 2004, then you would have got this bridge 10 years ago". This bridge has gifted Northeast with the longest bridge in the whole country, along with securing Arunachal from China interruption. BJP Chief Minister Sarwananda Sonowal assumed the Chair of CM just a year back (May-24, 2017) and the project is completed, but in Tripura double lane road began 2 years back; will cross the deadline on June-2017, but not even 30 % work of it is completed.
This happens in after long ruling of a state by same political party, that lagged Assam far behind development under Congress Era, but Sonowal not only eased the Assam-Agartala way within a year, but various other projects are getting quickly completed.
Tripura Transport Minister Manik Dey just few days ago of BG inauguration said that Tripura Govt asked the Centre that instead of Broad Gauge, Centre should accommodate funds for meter gauge repairing. But surprisingly, on the day of express train inauguration, Tripura CM jumped with his student era's rail movement connecting him with flashback meetings with Rajib Gandhi just to justify, Modi Govt didn't give anything by ownself, but by protest.
However, presently Sarkar has no headache for the double lane project, PWD works, border fencing works slow moves.
PM Modi on Friday reminds, "This Northeast region can play a huge role in connecting India to Southeast Asia"
Approval for the bridge was given by the Union Cabinet in 2009 under the UPA government. Its construction began in 2011, under the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government in Assam.
Recalling how the concept of the bridge came about, Modi said that on May 29, 2003 an MLA from Assam's Tinsukia district, Jagadish Bhuyan, wrote a letter to Vajpayee demanding a bridge in the area. "After his letter a feasibility report was sought by Atalji," Modi said. "If work on the bridge had started instantly then it would have been completed 10 years ago," he said.
One year of BJP Govt at Assam has completed such a challenging project proving if state govt wants it can push a work for faster progress as much as it wants.
