AGARTALA, May 3 (TIWN): The northwester storm has created havocs in Northeast state Tripura recently, added by pre-monsoon rain and storm. After April 24 one died in lightning at Sonamura, once again on Tuesday one Subhash Das was killed after a tree fall over him at Bishalgarh. The cyclone and lightning are mostly occurring on night time or late evening whereas the day time suffers from high temperature. Whereas heatwave has become a common weather feature over most parts of India, up in East and Northeast India, a cyclonic circulation can be marked over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining areas. A trough is extending from this system up to Coastal Odisha. In wake of this, moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers will continue over northeastern states. East Bihar and adjoining Jharkhand could also see some isolated activity. An active Western Disturbance can be marked over North Pakistan and adjoining Afghanistan. This system is likely to move east-northeastwards.

As per Skymetweather's report for the last couple of days, most parts of Northeast India are witnessing some of the heavy spells of pre-Monsoon rains. It is happening around the same time when most parts of Central India are reeling under heatwave conditions. It seems like a trip to Northeast India now is a good and viable option to beat the heatwave.

At present, most states in Northeast India like Meghalaya, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura are witnessing varied rain intensity. World’s second wettest place Cherrapunji, received 237.4 mm of rains in the span of 24 hours. Other stations like Guwahati received 48 mm, Haflong 56 mm, Imphal 31 mm and Jorhat received 46 mm of rainfall.

This moderate to heavy spell of rainfall is expected to persist over the region for at least 2-3 days. Although the chances of flooding cannot be expected but rainfall with thundering will bring a certain sense of chaos in the region.

According to Skymet Weather meteorologists, this spell of rainfall can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining areas. This system has affected the weather over entire northeast region.
