AGARTALA, May 2 (TIWN): Whereas criticizing world domestic production rate CM said only 3 % GDP growth has been reported from European Counties, but his own state's GDP has identified as the lowest production in the whole country. Domestic production has been almost collapsed in Tripura including agriculture, bamboo cultivation and most importantly the tea production. In this regard opposition parties are to sit on various protests demining the labour's rights working on those tea gardens. The Govt undertaken tea gardens in Tripura are undergoing heavy losses and the private tea garden business are also not much approachable resulting massive loss in Tea-business. The demand will also include shelter for the workers near the tea garden. In the month of February, around 2000 tea garden workers sat on strike for more than 15 days at Northern Part of Tripura. Reportedly, the Garden is undergoing heavy losses and atleast 10 crores of pending was reported from various sectors.

The tea garden is occupying 176 Ekar land. But the delaying of wages have created mass anger among the labours there. Whereas after the budget publication CPI-M State Secretary called for increasing domestic products in Tripura, on the other hand Tripura’s traditional bamboo production, tea-production are at loss. The tradition of tea gardening in Tripura is almost on the verge of extinction due to Tripura Govt.’s negligence and people attitude to nurture other products as rubber rather than bamboo and tea.

It’s worthy to mention here that the 58 tea gardens  in the state (at Indo-Bangla Border) were to operate at the optimum level producing (one crores kg of tea per year), but till day from Tripura Govt. side, no step has taken to improve tea plantation here in the state. As a result, the glory of tea-plantation in Tripura is losing its glory day after day.

Tea Industry which was started in Tripura by the people of East Bengal has lost its glory in the 22 years of Manik regime.

It seems that Tripura which was once hoped to equal with other hill stations of India including Darjeeling & Assam, now left with a bleak future and people here now prefers more harmful cultivations as rubber or Ganja plantation, rather than tea-plantation. So, if govt. takes initiatives to re-boost the tea gardens, then Tripura can get back its glory, as public will soon more lose interest in Tea Gardening and will go for other options.
