Agartala, July 11 (TIWN): Polling for election duty voters was conducted in all 35 block areas of the state, State Election Commissioner Yatendra Kumar said here today.
Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat here today, the official said that over 11,000 voters had applied under Form 16 of the State Election Commission to cast votes as EDV.
No untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the state, Kumar stated.
All personnel engaged in the three tier panchayat election process scheduled on July 15 would be covered under the process of EDV voting, he State Election Commissioner said adding that police and TSR jawans engaged for poll duty would be allowed to cast EDV votes on Saturday.
"Quite a substantial number of voters cast their votes in the EDV facilitauon centers today", Kumar said. He said that the figures could be stated after conclusion of the EDV voting process including the cops tomorrow.
Asked about the reason of relaxation in EDV voting for police personnel, State Election Commissioner Kumar said that all policemen engaged in poll duty couldn't be feasibly shifted to EDV voting since it might cause disruption in the general law and order situation.
The EDV voting process was mostly held in facilitation centers set up in the block headquarters. In places having more number of voters like jn Mohanpur block, the facilitation center was set up in colleges.
