AGARTALA, March 7 (TIWN): Amidst road safety week’s celebration in January month atleast 25 people were killed in Tripura in last Dec to January months. In December 2016 the number of accidents were 40 and 12 people died out of this, whereas 41 people were critically injured. In 2017, Januray month out of 42 accident cases 13 people died whereas more 44 left injured seriously. Apart from that in 2015 only 158 people killed in road accident, whereas in 2014 188 people died. The number of accidents in 2014 was 716 and in number of accidents in 2015 was 647. That means everyday there are 2 accidents occurs in Tripura. But, DGP K Nagraj has called back the old system of fining under fining rules, which opens the way for looting public money for the bribe-happy officials.

In a Dist Court programme recently DGP K Nagraj said, “There are so many pending cases under Lower courts where the drivers are not clearing the challans which had been fined by Traffic police for breaking traffic laws. As a result, the number of pending cases are hugely increasing in lower court. To avoid the number of cases in courts the fining should be taken by ‘cash-on-spot’, when the driver will directly pay to the police man. However, Nagraj didn’t mention that in this cash-on-spot system how much of bribing practice had been increased in Tripura. Moreover, chances of accidents also raised as due to the easy way to avoid court with exchange of some money reckless driving practice also increases a lot.

However, after placing his demand Nagraj also mentioned,’…one life is too much to lose; we should make it zero’. Boosting about his police he said, ‘The death rate whereas in whole is 11.5 per lakh, in Tripura is 4.6 which is much lower than the Central rate. The accident when is 39  in Tripura its 19 only’. ‘In last few years we have overcome the situation and peace is much prevent at now’, Nagraj added.

But question raised, with cash-on-spot Tripura’s pending cases will be diminished; but will it be helpful to diminish the risks or death rates?

The survey says since the new year’s beginning the accident rats are massively increasing in state.
