AGARTALA, March 7 (TIWN): Once again border safety is under question when a smuggling racket was exposed at Dharmanagar. With a major jolt bike smuggling racket has come out which links Bangladesh-Tripura to Assam and Assam-Tripura to Bangladesh. Talking to TIWN on Tuesday morning, Dharmanagar O/C-Jayanta Karmakar, he said that the miscreants are used to sell the bikes by changing the number plates. The activity was going so smoothly till day, with the trick of ‘changing of number plates’ that nobody could doubt that the bikes can be brought from other states. It’s worthy to mention here, India made good quality’s products are always in demand for Bangladesh based black-marketers and smugglers. It was many times exposed how Yamaha RH-100 was theft from NE zone.
However, replying to the inquiry Karmakar said that along with Sonamura Border, Tripura’s Khowai border can be their easy transit for smuggling.
The incident took place when at midnight police getting informed by secret sources recovered 8 bikes from there. Immediately getting informed from the source OC Jayanta Karmakar and SDPO Jotismoy Roy Chowdhury gheraoed a home and recovered 7 bikes from there. In this connection one person has been arrested named Kalyan Saha (29). However, police is further investigating the case.
It’s worthy to mention here, whereas to enter other NE States Tripura’s public have to show inner transit permit cards, but for Assam, Mizoram people; they are free to enter. The smuggling chain has occupied the whole NE and Bangladesh, putting the lives of common people under threat.
