KAMALPUR, March 6 (TIWN): Halhali remained to be the largest wholesale market in the subdivision. Every Sunday merchants from different parts of the state gathered here for trade. But the condition of the market and its infrastructure as well as moving of traffic turned a plight for the people.

Every Sunday the market area which centred round the Kamalpur-Ambassa road became an example of sheer negligence of traffic unit and administration. At the same time, the lack of civic sense among the common people also became evident.

The wholesellers used to set their stalls just adjacent to the road. The buyers used to strand their vehicles just at the buying points wherever on the road. As a result, the traffic used to cease movement. Though some policemen and traffic constables used to be deployed there as a routine, they never found to be controlling the traffic. It also remained a fact that, the drivers never used to obey the instructions of the traffic unit. And virtually, the police never got the guts to teach them the lessons of law because the all powerful rulinh party's trade union CITU remained with them. All these resulted into stranding of traffic in the market area very often.

Moreover, the civic sense of the merchants and businessmen never found with any value.  They never found it a moral offence to create problems to other for their silly interests. And the role of the local elected panchayat also got worthless. The panchayat authority never found keen enough to resolve the issue. When in 2009, Congress captured the power of the panchayat, then initiative was taken to resolve the problem with the businessmen, police and administration. But as CPI-M regained the power in 2014 then all the efforts subdued. And people continued to pass every Sunday market of Halhali with much ado and problems.
