AGARTALA, March 5 (TIWN): In the long regime of Communist Govt the Municipal Corporations across the state were giving illegal permission for filling up of various waterbodies resulting increasing drinking water crisis, excessive temperature and destruction of eco-balance. Peculiar choices of state govt have boosted rubber plantation in state, ending traditional bamboo plantations, eventhough it was banned from maximum states and mass damaging of water bodies. TIWN Office itself was reported with many complains from places like Kamalpur, Dharmanagar, Udaipur with similar problems, where against the will of the local people DMs, Municipal Chairperson giving permission of filling up water bodies. Some places in Tripura has been dried up after water bodies were destroyed like that. Even in emergency times like fire incidents a helpless situation create as there is no water body nearby.

Not only waterbodies, but the agricultural lands are occupying by various buildings even sometimes party offices.

Thus all these activities have been damaging the atmosphere of the state.

A committee in this regard was formed named “Pukur Bachao Committee” or “Save Pond Committee” on Sunday. Reportedly, such an organization has first time created in Tripura.

The Committee Members said that in 1957 a pond was donated by a person in school area, but a section of lustrous public is now trying to occupy the pond. Surprisingly a section of political leaders are oiling their activities.Since 59 years people are using the pond and it was acting as almost a lifeline of the local people.

Suddenly 3 people named Ram pal, Piyush pal and Shankar Pal put boards on that area saying that its their ponds. Presently 98 % of the pond has been filled up. But when they passed the order from Court it was clearly written that…….. “Under Section 93 TLR / LR Act 1960 if this is any kind of public nuisance, wrongful activities and environmental hazard been occurred, the issuing authority may cancel the permission without any notice”.

But the authorities including SDM are playing a silent role. Thus to diminish such anti-environmental activities this “Save Pond Committee” has been made and on Monday 1 hour protest schedule has also been announced from morning 8 AM to 9 AM.
