Agartala, July 1 (TIWN): Bru displacement victims of Mizoram living in transit camps of North Tripura district for the past 16 years today expressed serious discontent at the sixth phase of repatriation held between June 17 and June 21 and said that the entire process was a part of a dark business going on inside Mizoram.

“The Government of Mizoram has completely disregarded the demands placed by MBDPF like allotment of land to each repatriated Bru family, deployment of central security forces for a year after repatriation to Mizoram, enhancement of repatriation package, enhanced free ration. They are conducting the repatriation just to wash their hands off the liability of having displaced people for years outside the state”, a joint communiqué from the Mizoram Bru Displaced Peoples’ Forum (MBDPF) and the All NGOs Joint Committee (ANJC) said today.

The Bru displacement victim reorganization forum alleged that the Government of Mizoram formed nexus with unauthorized and greedy Bru leaders like former MBDPF president Elvis Chorkey to conduct the repatriation. Citing examples of Sasonboti, wife of Lalruanga of Naisinghpara relief camp of North Tripura district who was repatriated beforehand, many previously repatriated families were claimed to have been repatriated again in the sixth phase of repatriation, the communiqué added.

BNLF and BLFM returnees who laid down arms in 2005 and availed the surrender package were claimed to have been again repatriated in the sixth phase, it added.

The ‘ugly impersonation’ resulted in plight of thirteen innocent families forced to starve to death without food as the Government of Tripura deleted names from the relief registers. The names were wrongfully deleted from the relief beneficiary list based on data provided by the Government of Mizoram.

An executive committee meeting of the two NGOs held today urged the concerned authorities to find out the culprits practicing unfair means and misusing the repatriation funds and punish them as per the law of the land. The Committee appealed the authorities to re-allocate the relief rations to the deprived families immediately to avert further crisis of starvation and possibilities of death.
