AGARTALA, Feb 18 (TIWN): After the dead rat was found in a Delhi school BJP is striking all the state govt for providing poisonous mid day meal to school children. The BJP also staged a protest against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the aftermath of nine students of a government school being taken ill after a dead rat was found in their midday meal. Addressing the demonstrators, Bidhuri said: "The midday meal food poisoning incident at Deoli Bandh is not an isolated incident of mismanagement in schools...”. Tripura’s school have become the victims of unhygienic mid-day-meal as the state also faced so many mid-day-meal scams under the ruling CPI-M.

On February 16, a dead rat found in the plates, served to the infants of an Anganwadi Centre at Dharmanagar. This shocking incident took place at the Anganwadi Centre, Ward number 2, North Ganga Nagar, at Dharmanagar subdivision. During the morning time when the students were taking meals at the Anganwadi Centre, they were shocked to find the parts of the dead rat in their plates. Among them, the body of the rat was found in a plate (in picture above),and the tails, other body parts were was found in other plates. Many plates were full of rat parts which were consumed by infants.

But as the cook was a friend of Social Welfare Minister Bijita Nath, no action was taken against her.

Severe corruption in the mid-day meal scheme at schools has come under scanner, thanks to the incooperation of the school inspectors.

A survey revealed that from 2010-1015, Tripura Govt. spent 336 crore’s of central funds. However, in the 3rd page of the Annual Work Plan & Budget (AWPB) for 2014-15 Govt. published a wrong report with a vague-maximum number of students under Mid-day-meal scheme. Whereas the number of students were 3,36,400 in the annual report it was shown as 3,44,265 with at least 7856 students more than the actual number of students. Whereas the state Govt. attacks BJP Central Govt. for privatization of Education system, but in reality since 2010, there has been at least 70 % increase of students admission in private schools, rather than Govt. schools due to the poor quality of Education provided by Manik Sarkar’s State Govt.

In total there are 18 % decrease of students admission under Mid-day meal scheme.

There are also reports of wastage of food grains in state. Food inspector reportedly didn’t collect 471.233 metric ton of food from the go-downs and there are reports of 42.08 metric ton food grain’s wastage in 71 schools.

147 schools has been recorded for irregular supply of mid day meals to students.

Recently BJP pointed out that few schools in town area as Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan, Tulsibati and Umakanta School for sending vague reports to the Central with maximum number of students under mid-day-meal, whereas a less number of students in actual takes mid-day-meal there.

Despite the high amount of money allotted for the midday meal, lower grade had been served to the student which has affected these small ones.
