Two more killed from malaria, Health Minister says stress laid on  maintaining treatment protocol

Agartala, June 30 (TIWN): Two more were killed by malaria on Monday, raising the official death toll to 55. Over a thousand more patients were freshly diagnosed with malaria parasite across the state today, Health
Minister Badal Choudhury said.

Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat here this evening, the minister said that Michael Lalramsanga (4) from Tlangsang of Jampui in North Tripura district and Manohar Tripura (9), son of Brijendra
Tripura of Rambhadra Para died from malaria today.  1,072 out of 7,726 fever patients, who underwent blood tests across the state today, were found to have contacted malaria. A total of
1,321 patients were admitted in different hospitals of the state on Monday; 534 of them were diagnosed with malaria.
The Health Minister today assured that the treatment protocol recommended by Government of India for Tripura and other states of the NE states would be properly followed. All ASHA workers and
Multi-Purpose Workers (MPW) are now working properly in the field, he added.
The minister added that hospitals, especially rural healthcare centers like the Primary Health Centers (PHC) and Community Health Centers (CHC) should arrange for additional beds where the authorities are
experiencing shortage of intake capacity.
Different social welfare organizations, youth organizations, religious trusts have started voluntary blood donation following an appeal from Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to ensure availability of blood. Many
patients afflicted with malaria were found concurrently suffering from anaemia in different parts of the state.
“We are fully capable of tackling any crisis of blood at the moment. The Department is sending necessary blood through the sub-divisionalmedical authorities wherever necessary” Health Minister Choudhury said
here today.
A total of 119 health camps were organized across the state today. Over 1,700 health camps were organized since June 13. DDT spray is being continued in all areas including non-endemic zones to make sure the malaria outbreak didn’t escalate further.
