AGARTALA, Feb 17 (TIWN): After the violent incidents at Gandachara caused by unruly IPFT supporters, when atleast 50 people were injured and many left in critical condition during 48 hrs strike called by the tribal outfits. CPI-M State Secretary Bijan Dhar while talking to TIWN said that CPI-M Govt is always against such violent elements of the society who are poisoning the peace of the state. ‘Opposition parrties including BJP’s irresponsible behaviour for the sake of vote banks is creating the situation critical’, added Dhar. ADC's CMD Radhacharan Debbarma, while talking to TIWN said, ‘IPFT , INPT are not actually working for any class or tribal society… all these elements are for agitating for personal and political gains’. ADC's CMD Debbarma also that in this regard a massive protest rally to be organized at Agartala on Friday where Tribal-Non-tribal under TYF, DYFI and other left front unions will join hands. ‘A separate Twipra-land demand and continuous clashes can never bring development to Tripura’, said Debbarma.

TIWN further asked Radhacharan Debbarma, ‘.. When BJP never directly supported IPFT, then why CPI-M organizing protests holding the banners of BJP-CPI(M) alliance’,. In reply Radhacharan Debbarma said, ‘BJP’s said that all anti-CPI-M protests are supported by BJP. Apart from that they IPFT/ BJP now a days having heart to heart relation, without words !’.

The Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), a tribal-based separatists party, called the 48-hour strike in Gandacherra in tribals-dominated Dhalai district to protest the alleged police "high-handedness" on February 8 when three tribal parties had called a 12-hour bandh to oppose the Centre's citizenship bill.

At Gandachera around 50 persons were injured, four of them critically, when bandh (shut-down) supporters and ruling Left Front members clashed in six places in Tripura on February 8.

On Wednesday night, five Tripura State Rifles (TSR) troopers were injured when several hundred IPFT members attacked them.

"Huge contingents of TSR, BSF (Border Security Force), CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) and Assam Rifles led by Inspector General of Police (law and order) K.V. Sreejesh are overseeing the situation in and around the Gandacherra sub-division," a police official said here.

However, talking to TIWN Gandachara Police station, the police personnel said, ‘Everything is now under control’.

To keep law and order under control the State Govt has deployed huge number of Police, TSR.
