AGARTALA, June 29 (TIWN): If everything falls in right place, the first-ever fly over construction works would start after the durga puja, official sources confirmed here today.
The timing for flagging off the works after the puja has been selected keeping in mind of the monsoon which is expected to be remained active till September end. After getting the government approval, the Public Works Department (PWD) has already floated tender. The Rs. 250 crore tender is scheduled to be opened on July 7 next in presence of bidders.

However, fund still remains a cause of concern as the Centre has not given green signal to provide financial assistance to the state government. “If we don’t get money from the Centre, the state will mobilize its own resources”, said an official of PWD.

As per the specification, the fly over which will start from Drop Gate is supposed to be ended at HGB Road via Fire Brigade Chowmuhani and it will have a subway leading to Melarmath.

Once the construction work gets underway, the fly-over will get completed within three years.

It was the Traffic department which had moved the proposal to construct a fly over connecting the southern part of the city to the heart of the capital town with smooth traffic.

Following the proposal, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has given consent to the PWD to go ahead with the proposal. The PWD had engaged a Delhi based consultant to prepare a DPR for the ambitious project.

The government after accepting the DPR has floated the tender for the Rs. 250 crore project which is expected to minimize the traffic congestion strategic locations like Battala, Nagerjala, Fire Brigade Chowmuhani, Melarmath and Bardowali.
