Agartala, June 26 (TIWN): Minister for Health and Family Welfare Badal Chowdhury and Health Secretary M. Nagaraju tomorrow scheduled to visit Longtarai Valley sub division to review the malaria situation there.
The official death toll in Tripura after the outbreak of malaria reached 50 on Thursday after death of three more people.Speaking to reporters, Minister for health and family welfare Badal Chowdhury said that yesterday Nitai Sarkar (38), Tarunjoy Tripura (6) and Dilip Sarkar (28) died in hospital,
The state health minister said nearly 30,000 people, mainly belonging to tribal communities, have been affected across three districts — Dhalai, Gomati and South Tripura. He added that Tripura was afflicted with malaria after a gap of four years.
“Reports of 1437 person was tested positive today in various parts of the state,teams of doctors, nurses and paramedics have been fanned out to the three affected districts and volunteers have been going from house to house in the hilly areas to track down every suffering person,” Choudhury told
He also informed that there are chances of dengue, encephalitis and meningitis outbreak in the state, all preventive measures are taken, besides 166 health camps are organized today in the state.
In the worst-affected district of Dhalai, more than 80 doctors and about 150 nurses have been pressed into service to handle the situation made worse by difficult terrain, almost cut off completely by roads damaged by incessant monsoon showers. Officials said normal vehicles are unable to reach many parts of the largely tribal region and special four-wheelers are being used to ferry personnel and medicines.
