Agartala, June 26 (TIWN): Assam Rifles Public School, Agartala organized a rally on the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse on 26th Jun 2014. About 250 students participated in the colorful rally with all slogans about the ill-effects of Drug Abuse. Slogans like “SAY NO TO DRUGSâ€, “DRUGS- A SOCIAL MENACE†etc proclaimed the strong protest of the students against the misuse of drugs.
The Principal of the School- SS Ray flagged off the rally from the School campus. The students of class VIII to X took part in the rally that started from Circuit House via Raj Bhawan and passed through Northgate and terminated at the School campus. The enthusiasm of the students to strongly stand against the Drug Abuse was clearly seen during the rally. The motive of the rally was to sensitize the youth of Tripura and to save the younger generation from falling prey to the vicious trap of the drug use. People appreciated the well organized rally which ignited the general awareness among the denizens of the state. The Teachers associated with the rally were appreciated by the school management for organizing it flawlessly.
The events were organized at schools and community halls of the localities which were attended by school children, teachers, parents and villagers. The program received overwhelming response from the public and was attended by large gathering everywhere.
It is an exercise undertaken by the Assam Rifles to sensitize the people in general and the youth in particular about the menace of drugs. The illegal production and distribution of drugs have spawned crime and violence worldwide. As part of the programme, informative lectures were conducted by the Assam Rifles followed by rallies to make people aware of the importance of preventing drug addiction, illicit trafficking and its adverse effects on personal health and the society. Leaflets were also circulated in the area for the public to raise awareness.
Assam Rifles also assured full co-operation in efforts of the people in stopping drug sale and bringing the misguided youth into the mainstream, living upto its motto ‘Sentinels of the North East’.
