Agartala, June 25 (TIWN): Scrutiny of nomination papers submitted for the coming three tier panchayat election in Tripura was conducted on Wednesday leaving 905 seats for unconested victory of Left Front candidates.
Speaking to reporters at the civil secretariat here today, State Election Commissioner Yatendra Kumar said that 1143 candidates submitted nomination papers in 419 seats of 35 panchayat samities till June 23. 21 nominations aming these were rejected due to technical defaults durijg scrutiny with 1,122 nominations still valid.
Three nominations were rejected among nominations submitted by 405 candidates for the Zilla Parishad election. Two seats are expected to go unconested in the strata, Kumar said.
Asked about final figure of valid nomination papers in Gram Panchayats, the official said that 168 nomination papers were rejected during scrutiny. Out of 6,111 seats in gram panchayats, 870 are expected to go uncontested. A total of 13 thousand 665 candidates submitted nomination papers for gram panchayats.
The State Election Commissioner further said that all BDOs were asked to ensure strict maintenance of Rule 17 of the election commission guidelines in accepting withdrawal of nomination papers. Withdrawal of nomination papers is scheduled to end on June 26.
