Centre approves Rs. 1250 crore State Action Plan on Climate Change for Tripura

AGARTALA, June 24 (TIWN): The National Steering Committee on Climate Change recently approved the Tripura State Action Plan on Climate Change. The action plan was proposed to be executed in the 12th Five Year plan period with a total fund involvement of Rs, 1250 crores.

 The action plan involves solar mission, mission on energy efficiency, sustainable habitat, water mission, sustainable Himalayan eco-system, green Tripura mission, sustainable agriculture, strategic acknowledge mission and the mission on health. The highest fund of Rs. 300 crore for the action plan was allocated for the solar mission with Rs. 250 crore for sustainable agriculture.

A meeting of inter-departmental coordination committee on the State Action Plan on climate change held at the civil secretariat on June 24 assigned concerned departments for implementation of each component of the plan. The Department of Science, Technology and Environment was assigned to handle ‘strategic knowledge’, Department of Urban Development, PWD, Transport and the municipal councils were entrusted with the responsibility to handle ‘sustainable habitat’.

A highly placed source in the state administration said that the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) would be handling ‘energy sufficiency’ while the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) was assigned for the ‘solar mission’. The Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (Water Source) was assigned for ‘water mission’, Department of Forests was assigned ‘Sustainable Himalayan Eco System’ and ‘Green India Mission’.
